Banana Peel Shoe Polish

A few months ago I had someone call me at work and inquire if I had time that day to set up a meeting. I definitely had time, but I had spent all morning doing data entry work in my tiny little cubicle in the far back where no one ever saw me so I hadn't exactly worn clothes that were up to "meeting-standards". I knew I had a pair of old heels and at least a nice sweater in the car so I went out, changed my clothes and knew that was as good as I was going to look under the circumstances. When I looked down I noticed that my shoes were looking an awful matte-grey color. I had already invested a new pair of black heels so I wasn't super concerned with ruining the leather quality of these shoes, all I needed was a quick fix to make these babies shine. That was when the little lightbulb came on and I grabbed a half empty container of carmex from my purse, dabbed it on my finger, and gave my shoes a little buffing! It actually worked. They looked good enough for my meeting and then the minty smelling shoes went directly into the trash can on the way. (Ok, lets be honest, they went back into my trunk for a few months first).

I just learned today that another equally as good (but realistically, probably a lot better) remedy for dull shoes is to use a Banana peel as shoe polish! The peels of banana's have a high percentage of potassium which is a key ingredient in shoe polish. So next time you are in need of a good polish, don't waste your time rubbing gooey carmex all over your nice shoes, just try a banana peel!

Do you have any other good home remedies that you use? I'd love to know them!!
