1 Year Anniversary in Maine

1 Year Anniversary in Maine

Day 1

Feels SO GOOD to travel. Totally worth the 2 Covid tests we had to take to be granted permission to visit Maine!

Per ush, we are following a “path of great suggestions” from friends and fam to guide our travels. Thanks to many of you for sharing your fave places with us! We hit up Red’s Eats in Wiscasset, Boothbay Harbor, Primo Restaurant in Rockland and are now resting our lil heads at 250 Main Hotel.

The US has so many gems and I’m so explore Maine for the first time w. Steve Faber.

Day 2

A FULL Sunday! So many gorg spots! Coffee & a windy walk on the breakwater in Rockland, a picnic lunch from The Market Basket in Rockport, cruised downtown & to Mt. Battie in Camden, made it to the peak of Cadillac Mt. in Acadia for sunset and closed the day w. fried whole belly clams at The Thirsty Whale in Bar Harbor (owned by a woman originally from GR!). ALL excellent suggestions - thanks!!

Day 3

Jim VanderMey told me the Precipice Trail in Acadia was one of his top 5 hikes -ever- and that man loves a good hike, so I took that seriously! We shifted around our whole itinerary to include it. Then, due to peregrine falcon migration the trail was closed for weeks. We were so bummed! Well, two weeks ago it opened back up!!

All I can say is: wow. Best hike of my life. It was HARD and a lil scary and our legs got jiggly (or maybe just mine ) but it was also EXCITING and gorgeous and full of energy.

Thanks for the great suggestion, Jim! Can’t wait for you to tell us where to go next year for our anniversary, you’ve really knocked it out of the park () w. our mini-moon in Mt. Evans and now this!

Day 4

I had to ask Steve if he knew HOW to turn off my iPhone because I honestly wasn’t sure. We went “offline” for two full days while we posted up at the Appalachian Mountain Club lodge in Mid-Maine earlier this week.

Steve found this spot (w inspo from Melissa Werkman ) and it was - even if I didn’t know ahead of time that there wouldn’t be cell reception, or electricity, or private bathrooms. We enjoyed sunset canoe cruises, amazing meals prepped (or packed) for us, cabin cribbage, a jaunt on the Appalachian Trail, a beautiful hike to Gulf Hagas - “the Grand Canyon of Maine”- and soaked in the views of Moosehead Lake & Mt. Katahdin. Grateful for this time “off the grid” together.

Day 5

Portland, you really showed up with your food scene! The idea to head to Maine came from dreams of and IT DELIVERED.

A few of our food highlights include: duck poutine at Duckfat, the lobster tail corn dog at The Highroller Lobster Co., the lumber sexual cocktail at Vena's Fizz House, the lobster roll & oysters at Eventide Oyster Co., outdoor tapas at Central Provisions, mini pitchers in the parklette at Maps bar, morning buns from Standard Baking Co., and potato donuts from The Holy Donut, but THE BEST was, hands down: clam chowdah, oysters and lobster steamed right at this lil pound in Pine Point- The Bait Shed Restaurant and Bar. What a hidden gem.

Thanks again for all your awesome recs that helped shape this fab anniversary trip. That’s what it’s all about right? Soaking in the best advice from those you trust, discarding the pieces that don’t quite line up, and then crafting your own path. Something like that. Metaphors be damned, it was an excellent trip!
